Nature Heals Us - Happy International Bio diversity day

Nature is interconnected, intertwined, and indivisible with human life, our societies, and economies. Yet we are polluting and destroying our land, air, seas and freshwater, and threatening current and future generations. Incremental change is not enough.Nature as Medicine is an ancient idea in Ayurvedic Ritucharya, or  Seasonal Syncing. Japanese's Sinrin-Yoku also tells us to connect with nature. Nature prescriptions aren't necessarily about getting exercise or pumping our heart, although they can do that too. They are more about mindfulness and soaking in the outdoors. Nature treats the whole person, not just symptoms.

Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development

Our vision is a future where the world’s biodiversity and ecosystems are protected, restored and valued as a planetary safety net for all of humanity, safeguarding our food, our water, our livelihoods and jobs, our climate, our health and our security, enabling people to rise out of poverty and inequality to live more just and sustainable lives.

After reading a prime article in Reader's Digest May 2025 issue, I wondered that how what I am following the Nature Tips, are given there in. So I have supplemented my Nature Prescriptions in much better way:

■ Try to get 30 minutes to an hour of Nature Exposure daily or at least 3 to 4 times a week. We can experience benefits of such Nature Walks even if our heart rate doesn't soar.

lan for 3 days outings in a month to a National Park or a Nature Park. My feeling is that it increases our life at least for 30 days as we cleanse our lungs and inhale pure oxygen there and see blue sky.

■ If we cannot go farther, kindly try to just lie down under a tree and stare up at the leaves and peep unto sky. It helps us improve our immune system, lowers the cancer risk and increases the creativity, focus and better understanding of the things around.

■ Nature isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity for our good health. So spend the Sundays with Bird watchers even if you're not an avid birder. It would help you seeing beauty of nature, and have tremendous positive effects on our persona.

■ We should match our sleep schedule to the Sun.

■ Spend time in green spaces:
◆ Sip your coffee or tea in the verandah among plants and flowers.
◆ Try grounding or earthing.  Gardening is so good hobby to inculcate.
◆ Go barefoot on the grass and touch it.
◆ Keep your phone and other gadgets at home when going in green spaces.
◆ Watch the clouds, listen to the birds, or simply appreciate the surrounding.

■ I make it sure to get my hands dirty. There are healthy microbes in the soil.

■ Plant a sapling wherever it is possible. If we don't find space in our home, plant it in a flower-pot, in the Society's park.

■  I go to mountains every year. Though I have seen almost every spot in Mussoorie or Nainital, but I sit under a tree, or over a rock, write a poem of love n nature. Take pictures of Nature. Buy books and read them sitting in the park.

■ Appreciate Forests and wild animals. Raise voice if anything is done against trees and biodiversity of the area.

■ Forest-Bathing makes us feel better. By appreciating birds, butterflies, beetles, bats, bamboos, we widen our vision. It's magical.

Nature gives us long-term happiness. So why not to grab it!

ये परिंदों की चहक और जँगल की महक,
दिल न आये इस खूबसूरती पर तो क्या हो...
